PERAK'S EVENT

There are numerous town in the district of Manjung but two most popular of all are the towns of Sitiawan and Lumut. Sitiawan is located approximately 70km south from Ipoh town and located further down at the beach from Sitiawan is the once a relatively unknown fishing town, Lumut. One of Lumut prominent landmarks is the clock tower. Built in 1960 by the Malayan Flour Mills Company, the clock tower is a symbol of progress. Another attraction is the 8-metre tall windmill which is located in town.

A visit to Manjung is never complete without a trip to Pangkor Island. Situated just off the west coast of Perak Peninsular Malaysia is one of the most enchanting islands you’ll ever come across. Pangkor has for centuries enthralled visitors with her charming beauty. In the old days, she was the refuge of seamen who sailed through the Straits of Malacca. Pangkor’s many idyllic bays made it the ideal destination for adventurers, merchants and soldiers of fortune sought the peace and tranquility she had to offer.

Pangkor today is thriving tourist destination that somehow does not reflect her turbulent past. Visitors will be charmed by the serenity of her fishing villages, her small but bustling towns and her splendid selection of international standard holiday resorts.

Across the Manjung Straits opposite Lumut is the bustling community of Pangkor Island, the largest of a group of nine islands. The fishermen live in scattered settlements on the eastern side, facing the town of Lumut and Teluk Batik. Visitors will get a chance to watch them go about their daily life on the 40-minute ferry ride from Lumut as the ferry stops at the main settlements of Sungai Pinang Kecil and Sungai Pinang Besar before landing at Pangkor town.

Pangkor Island measures about approximately 8 square miles and has a population of about 23,000 people comprising mostly fisherman. While the island is today one of the biggest fish suppliers in Peninsular Malaysia, it is more renown as a world class holiday destination, thanks to its idyllic setting, tropical charm and various accommodations that suit every budget. Visitors can hire vans or motorbikes for island sight-seeing.

Among its popular tourist destination are Kota Belanda (The Dutch Fort), Batu Bersurat (Scared Rock), Pasir Bofak Beach, Segadas Beach, Fu Lin Kong Temple, Sri Pathirakaliaman Temple, Teluk Nipah (Nipah Bay), Teluk Kura-Kura (Tortoise Bay), Giam Island, Pangkor Laut and Puteri Dewi Beach.
