PERAK'S EVENT

Perak covers a spacious area of 21,000 square kilometers and is the second largest state in the country, next to Pahang. It has a population of approximately two million and is located on the western coast of Malaysia, at the western coast of Malaysia, at the northern approach to the Straits of Malacca, between Kedah and Selangor. It extends deep into the Peninsular, with its eastern border marked by the mountains of the Main Range.

Perak is divided into a total of nine districts:- Hilir Perak, Hulu Perak, Batang Padang, Kerian, Perak Tengah, Kinta, Manjung, Larut Matang/Selama and Kuala Kangsar. The major towns in these various districts, mainly Ipoh, Taiping, Teluk Intan, Kuala Kangsar and Lumut, are teeming with interesting tourist venues to sightsee and explore. The famous cave temples of Ipoh, are the only one of its kind in Southest Asia; in Taiping, a town of many firsts, where every streets seems to be a scene from the colonial fifties; the placid town of Teluk Intan, famed for its lush palm oil plantations and the 'leaning tower' of Malaysia; architectural grandeur in the 'royal town' of Kuala Kangsar, home of the Sultan of Perak, and the fishing village of Lumut where there's sun, sea and surf, including the paradise isle of Pangkor to appreciate.

From history and culture to nature and recreation, Perak has it all, including shopping. There are many modern shopping centres and supermarkets in Perak especially in Ipoh and the major towns. Other places where you can pick up good bargains are the pasar malam or night markets. These are street bazaars that stock everything from local handicrafts to folk medicine, farm-fresh product and casual wear.

In retrospect, Perak is bursting with attractions, traditions and genuine warmth that tourists: both local and foreign, young and old, will definitely enjoy. After all, not many can resist the luster of the 'Silver State'.
